Te-Ashi-Do Karate is our original self defence Martial Arts class. It has been running in Exeter for over 20 years.
It is a blend of hand strikes, kicks, throws, locks and takedowns, all working to complement each other to provide the practitioner with an effective array of moves to defend themselves with.
Training in Te-Ashi-Do is a great physical workout, teaches discipline and respect, improves fitness and flexibility as well as improving confidence and self awareness.
All the moves taught rely on technique and timing over strength. The student is taught how to use moves efficiently and at the right time, minimising the effort involved and increasing the effectivity of the move.
The wonderful thing about Te-Ashi-Do Karate is that it lends itself to an individual well. So if you are not the best kicker in the world, for example, you may find that you excel in groundwork, or throwing. This also means that size doesn’t matter. A bigger, stronger person may find throwing useful, but may not have the speed or movement to deliver good kicks and punches.
This way, the individual practitioner makes Te-Ashi-Do their own.
